He'd been in Tael three days, and so far Sevrin was having no luck at all. He'd come to the busy coastal city in attempt to find a boat that would take him northwest. Not even the Twins had touched it, as far as he new - though at the moment their attention was obviously on each other rather then taking over new land. It was considered Garamon's, according to the few maps that had popped up since the divide, but most people knew he had no real presence there.
Unfortunately, there was no one willing to take him. Everyone he asked seemed to have a different story about the area. Sea monsters large enough to swallow a small vessel in one bite, giants that hurled boulders at them from the land, tribes of warrior sea people with a taste for human flesh…he’d been told some of the most outrageous stories he’d ever heard these past days. Some of the milder tales involved freak currents and large waves with no wind to make them. Whatever the case, it didn’t seem likely that he was going to find a boat willing to get anywhere near the area. Still, Tael was a relatively pleasant place to be, and Sevrin saw no reason to leave just yet. And as long as he was here, he may as well keep trying.
Tael wasn’t a particularly large city, but it was far from being considered small. It was crowded though, and it was close to impossible to walk the streets during the day without bumping into someone here and there. Located near the southern tip of the Siloduan forest, the city was deep into Fyrdona’s territory, yet far enough away from Isol that it escaped some of her influence. It was rather hot here, as most of the south was before Fyrdona had taken over, but the cool breeze coming off the water made it bearable. To take advantage of the relief the wind brought, the buildings in the city made use of large, open windows, often elaborate and unique in design. Where possible, buildings were eliminated altogether - the marketplace, for example, was entirely outdoors.
At the moment, Sevrin was seated in the common room of the Singing Pearl Inn, where he was currently staying. Eating a small breakfast of eggs and sweetcakes, he sat alone at one of the tables, vaguely listening to the conversations of the others in the room. It was already getting crowded, despite the fact that it was still relatively early, and soon enough he’d probably be joined at his lonely table near the back by some latecomer who couldn’t find a seat elsewhere. While usually fairly social and welcoming of random conversation with strangers, he wasn’t much a morning person and had mixed feelings about someone interrupting his breakfast. Hopefully, he thought, biting into his cake, I’ll have a bit more of a chance to wake up before someone comes.
