About the Quayan

A quayan is basically a large feline species with large feathered wings. They have human level intelligence (or above human, according to their own beliefs), and though they cannot speak they can communicate telepathically. Naturally, they live deep in the mountains away from human civilization. Some, however, have broken away from the quayan's society to participate in the war, and in some cases entire tribes have left to join one side or another.

In size and build they're similar to cougars. Their main colouring ranges from chestnut to light grey, usually with their underside being a few shades lighter, and have black markings and wings. While most markings are random, all quayan have similar (if not always exactly the same) eye markings.

Keep in mind, telepathy and mind-reading do not go hand in hand. The quayan can voice their own thoughts by projecting them to those meant to hear them. They can NOT hear the thoughts of whomever they choose, and anyone other than a quayan would have to reply aloud. I strongly suggest using standard quotation marks for anything being said to another character, telepathically or otherwise.

Some other bits of info on the quayan (this list will most likely grow with time):

  • They usually have a low opinion of humans.
  • Most of the tribes are against fighting, but there are exceptions.
  • They are fairly adaptable, and those who have gone south the fight with Fyrdona have already developed thicker coats to deal with the low temperatures.
  • In general, they prefer traveling by foot to flying, and are faster when running.
  • Their life span is approximately 45 years, the very oldest reaching around 60. These are usually tribe leaders and other respected members of the community.
  • Different tribes have different hierarchies. Some leaders are elected, and some are born into the position. Some tribes don't have a leader at all, but are run by a group of elders.
